For Marcelo Arevalo, alias Tete, the fact of having an electronic anklet that activated an alarm when he left his house was not an impediment to going out and stealing.
When he was arrested by the police, accused of commanding a gang of minors that was dedicated to committing entrances and assaulting retirees, Arevalo was wearing the electronic anklet. Despite the fact that the device was activated four times to alert that he had trespassed the limits of his home and that he was called more than two hundred times due to repeated failures in the system, no magistrate revoked the benefit of house arrest.
Favored by this lack of control, Arevalo had no impediments to lead the criminal group that, between July and August, carried out eight assaults in the Ringuelet and Tolosa area.

In all these robberies the owners of the houses were beaten. But, in the last assault, the owner of the house was a Buenos Aires police officer who defended himself with shots. On August 26, the criminal group intercepted a neighbor, identified by police sources as Patricia, when she was arriving at her house, located at 4, between 522 and 523, in Tolosa.
At gunpoint, the criminals seized the victim’s Ford Fiesta and continued with their raid of assaults. Half an hour later, they arrived at the house located at the corner of 3 bis and 518, in Ringuelet, where they attacked Liliana, the 71-year-old retiree. Neighbors noticed the assault and alerted the emergency number 911.
A police patrol intercepted the vehicle and arrested two suspects. They are two minors, ages 12 and 14. Due to their age they are considered non-punishable by law. Both, with several admissions to police stations in the area for having committed a series of robberies, were handed over to their parents. Also, one of them was carrying a replica of a .40 caliber Glock pistol.
When the vehicle was intercepted by the police patrol, the other four criminals fled the scene and abandoned the minors. This conduct revealed that the assailants used the minors to achieve impunity for the crimes they committed.
However, five days later, police investigators identified the aforementioned Arevalo and he was designated as the alleged leader of the gang. He was arrested at his home, along with a 40-year-old accomplice, his sister’s partner. The Justice revoked the house arrest.
