A fire that broke out Friday evening in the custodian’s closet has caused moderate damage to several classrooms and halls.
A press release by Bemidji’s Fire Chief Justin Sherwood states that at 11:34 pm on Friday October 20, firefighters were called to the Bemidji High School to investigate a reported smoke alarm.
Crews searched the building for the source of the alarm and found smoke in the hallway. Water was flowing out of a sprinkler on the southern side.
The release stated that firefighters used a fire extinguisher and thermal imaging camera to douse the flames.
The firefighters were at the scene about three hours with three pieces of apparatus to help with clean up and water removal.
Water damage was sustained in adjacent classes and halls, as well as the room that started the fire.
There were no injuries reported. According to the press release, it appears that this fire was electrical.
Bemidji Fire Department received assistance from the Bemidji Ambulance Service and Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office, as well as the Bemidji Police Department.
