On Sunday, October 29, at approximately 6:55pm Humboldt Bay Fire was called to investigate a structure fire/porch fire in a home on the 3300 Block of
Williams St., Eureka. The neighbor of the home across the street reported the porch was on fire. They did not know whether anyone was at the house. HBF responded
Three fire engines, a ladder truck and two chief officers.
First arriving engine reported heavy fire involved in the porch front of a one-story wooden frame home with a possible extension to the attic.
The crew immediately began to suppress the fire. The next arriving units helped ventilate the smoke and search the home for residents. The rear of the house was ablaze when two residents returned home. The fire department assisted in evacuating residents, and treating one for a minor case of smoke inhalation. City Ambulance was called to assist the resident, but he did not need to be transported to hospital. He received treatment and was released at the scene.
The fire was contained within 15 minutes by the firefighters, who also limited the damage caused to the living room, front porch and attic. Crews
The firefighter stayed on the scene for about two hours, to make sure the house was secure and the fire had been extinguished.
