Merrill Fire Department reported a fire in a building at 1103 Jefferson St., Merrill yesterday evening. MFD Fire Chief Josh Klug said that the call was received around 8 p.m. “Engine-61 and Med-61 responded to the scene immediately.” “Upon arriving, they discovered significant fire emanating from the house.”
He said that crews started extinguishing and protecting the exposed areas.
This was a ranch-style home with an adjacent garage. Klug reported that all three of the residents were able escape with “minor injuries”.
He said, “We’re glad that the residents were able escape from this rapidly advancing fire.” This is the shortest time possible for people to escape a fire.
The house and garage were both destroyed. Smoke, water, and fire caused extensive damage to the remaining part of the building.
Wausau Fire Department and Pine River Fire Department provided mutual aid to Corning Fire Department and Russell Fire Department. They also assisted Tomahawk EMS and Merrill Police Department.
Klug stated that the cause of the fire was not yet known.
