Westport police have said they found the Aston Martin car that was taken in an egregious carjacking Sunday. A 16-year old suspect, as well as Berlin man were arrested after they discovered the stolen vehicle at his home.
Carjacking took place on Bayberry Lane, Westport at around 3:50 pm Sunday. Police released two videos of two carjackers who entered the garage and pulled the driver off the luxury car before stealing it.
Police say they have obtained a warrant that allows them to search a Berlin house and recover four stolen vehicles. They recovered the Aston Martin, which was taken in Westport during the carjacking on Sept. 16, a BMW 530i from Westport stolen the same day and then used for the carjacking.
The Bridgeport Auto Theft Task Force arrests 39-year old Derek McGill who lives in Berlin at the home where stolen cars were located, however, Westport police have not filed charges against him.
McGill has been placed under a $250,000 bond. He is charged with four charges of theft in the second degree and conspiracy of theft in the second degree. One count was of card payment fraud, another count illegal operation and conspiracy of an illegal chop shop.
A search warrant was executed by police on Tuesday at the home of a Waterbury resident. They found a gun with an extended magazine.
Westport police have said that they’ve arrested a 16 year-old boy who lived at the residence after finding evidence linking him to a carjacking.
He was accused of strangulation, first degree. Robbery through carjacking. Home invasion. Burglary in first degree. Criminal attempt to steal a motor vehicle, first degree.
According to police, he’s also been charged with theft in the first-degree of a motor vehicle and illegal taking of payment cards.
Westport Detectives have said that they are seeking an order for detention. If granted, then the teen would be transferred to Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center at a later time today.
