After heavy rainfalls and flash floods in Massachusetts, multiple cars became trapped Tuesday.
Merrimack Valley was flooded at the peak of the storms and the roads were shut.
On several Lawrence Streets, such as Parker Street South Union Street Grafton Street and Lowell Street abandoned cars with water up to three feet high could be seen.
Thomas Colon said as he swept away the floodwaters in his driveway: “I had tried to contain them, but they were too big.”
Colon, who has lived in South Union Street nearly 35 years says that this is the worst flood he has ever experienced. When he emerged, both of his trucks had been partially submerged.
Colon, along with one of his buddies, opened a storm drain nearby and forced the remaining water into it until all the water had drained out. The abandoned car was covered in leaves and other debris.
Jordami Gonzalez, who lives just a few blocks from the Parker Street tunnel, said that Lawrence’s sewers were clogged. The water was nearly three feet high. This is nothing new. Many people have tried to pass through the tunnel.
Minutes later, the Lawrence Mayor arrived to inspect damage at Parker Street. According to NBC10 Boston, he plans on visiting other flood hotspots in Lawrence to create a plan for preventing future flooding.
He said, “I will continue to help people.” Right now, I’m interested in any call.
The torrential downpours of Tuesday flooded a North Andover mill complex.
The staff at Jaime’s Restaurant were preparing themselves for a long day.
Christian Wallis said that he could see the water coming out of the wall. We didn’t have a clue, so we just let Mother Nature do her thing.
A cafeteria and toy shop were also damaged.
A breach was found in the nearby pond. According to the owners of the mill, firefighters had broken several windows so that water could flow into the business and down the street. This prevented the level from rising inside the mill and surrounding it.
Jaime Faira of Jaime’s Restaurant said that the basement water was as high as his waist. Even my fridges, freezers and ice machines were floating.
North Andover was not the only area affected by the torrential rains.
When their neighbourhood flooded, residents on Grant Street in Needham unclogged storm drains.
Jason Dowling of Neeedham, said: “We brought out some rakes when we saw all the blocked storm drains.”
After water surged into basements, many homeowners were forced to do some cleaning.
Alex Cullen stated, “We make a lot trips to the landfill. “.
Route 9 is heavily flooded at Route 27. There are multiple cars stranded. The area is closed to traffic and motorists are warned to stay away from the area.
