On Friday, firefighters battled an engulfing house fire in the suburb of Spotswood near New Plymouth.
Three fire engines were dispatched to the scene at 3.53pm.
On their arrival, the property on Tumai St. was already well on fire. The smoke from the fire was visible from all over the city at first.
Fire quickly spread through the building but it was brought under control.
Fire and Emergency NZ’s senior station officer Jason Crowe stated that they received numerous calls regarding the fire.
On Friday, 12 firefighters put out the flames.
He said that for the safety of the crew, they started with just two hoses to attack the fire.
The house has significant structural damage from fire, which is very sad for its occupants.
But at least all the people escaped safely.”
Crowe stated that they are investigating the cause of the fire, and an investigator has been called. The occupants were all accounted for.
He said, “We are working to extinguish any hotspots that remain.”
